Shifting Realities and The Nature of Time

In the shamanic journey, we may often be called to travel great distances—to the crack in the universe for soul retrieval, for example—we aren’t really traveling very “far” at all. We are where we are, and that is connected to everything, every moment.

As outlined in my earlier books, Reiki Shamanism and Healing Plants & Animals at a Distance, the energy body is viewed in varying ways by various cultures. The “universal” seven-chakra depiction is not universal, and was devised by the theosophical movement in the early 20th century. There are more utilitarian ancient Egyptian systems that I think more accurately describe the transmission of energy through the body, outlined by Drunvalo Melchizedek. Generally, the energy body can be described in sacred geometry as a star tetrahedron shape extending 27 feet (8 meters) in each direction in the 3-D world then continuing outward into other dimensions.

When a person journeys shamanically, awareness follows the lines of the star tetrahedron out into space and time. I believe Creator sees time and space as one: all-time, no-time—a circle. In the shamanic way of viewing the world, awareness follows lines of intention. So, it really doesn’t matter if one journeys a long way or a short way because one is “here” all the time and “there” all the time. It is as the physicists now describe matter as “winking” in and out of existence and being in two places at the same time.

Your consciousness apprehends the “reality” around you wherever you are, if you allow it, even in other dimensions. As an analogy, consider the phenomena of persistence of vision, which allows us to enjoy movies. Perception occurs at 1/30th of a second, or about the length of time it takes to blink the eye, which is how strobe lights in a darkened room are perceived as “stopping,” “slowing,” or even “reversing” movement in a choppy way. The brain perceives the illuminated movements, then pieces the movements together as part of the system of encoding motion. But the periods of invisibility still remain; they just aren’t “seen” or perceived as independent and equal units of time. The mind is tricked into seeing the jerky movements as continuous.

So it is with our consciousness and other dimensions. Our awareness is winking in and out in other dimensions, perceiving people, places, and things, but we may not be aware of these lines of potential connection along our energy bodies during the normal course of the day. Our realities are dreams of the Reiki Shaman, whether in shamanic journey, nightly dreaming, trance, daydream, or what we call waking reality, however we define it.

Our awareness is like a pea in a bushel basket—only a tiny fraction of all that makes up human consciousness (which we may call monkey-mind or ego or personality). It is constantly sampling the multiverse beneath our awareness, and helps explain how two people on opposite sides of the world can come up with the exact same idea, or create a
